What’s in the Inspiration?
Sometimes the best ideas don’t come from inspiration—they just show up. This was one of those. The idea came to A.R. to make Brunson as Captain America right after last season’s playoffs. Brunson had just broken his hand mid-game, Hart pulled a stomach muscle, Robinson was already out from a foot injury earlier in the round, OG was sidelined with a pulled hamstring, and Randle had missed the entire postseason with a shoulder injury.
By Game 7 of the second round, they were banged up—that’s when their season ended against the Pacers. Still, Knicks fans weren’t disappointed. Despite the setbacks, they were proud of what the injury-plagued team had accomplished. One thing was clear: when fully healthy, the future looked bright. Three words were already defining the mission for next season—RUN IT BACK!
After the Captain Brunson character was made it hit A.R. to keep it going. Josh had been refereed to as Iron Man time and again for playing as much as the entire 48 minutes. The original theme also featured Hartenstein as Thor, DiVincenzo as Vision, and Julius Randle as Nick Fury—complete with the eye patch. Brunson was cast as Captain America, even before he was officially named captain of the Knicks. Then came the blockbuster: after trading away seven picks, the Knicks acquired Mikal Bridges. The future looked even brighter, as the team was being dubbed the Villanova Knicks.
The mashup shirt was set to drop at the start of the season—and then, BANG! Over the summer, the Knicks made another huge move, sending Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to the Timberwolves in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns. Just like that, the RUN IT BACK theme was dead.
This was a new Knicks team. We had to wait and see what they were made of. Now we know...
Jalen Brunson leading the charge as Captain America, the fearless floor general and the definition of clutch.
Mikal Bridges, the league’s own Iron Man for his consecutive games played, spreading his wings on the Knicks as their wing—The Falcon.
Josh Hart, known for playing marathon minutes when it matters most. the heart and the hustle, takes the mantle as the Iron Man of the Knicks.
OG Anunoby suits up as the silent force, Black Panther, a strategic anchor with elite defense and scoring abilities.
Mitchell Robinson, the enforcer in the paint, hammers down his thunderous presence as Thor.
The Big Bodega KAT, Karl-Anthony Towns, transforms into The Hulk—raw power in motion.
